#20 ”La dolce vita in Rome”

February 17, 2016 | Traveling

Hi,

So it’s been a while since I’m back from my last city trip. I was busy working. Fashion boutique Vanilia in Maastricht, where I work, was recently reopened after a beautiful renovation. You probably should take a look if you’re in town!
Besides that the biggest issue of all was that we had some difficulties with Instagram. But it’s solved now and we’re back on track!

So back to my last holiday. Because I had some days off and it was carnival in the Netherlands, it was time to go on another holiday to enjoy my days off. Rome was our next destination. I was inspired by some movies I recently saw on Netflix. Believe it or not, but I like spy genre movies like James Bond (Spectre), Angels and Demons and a 60’s inspired movie The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Those moves are filmed in the capital city of Italy and it seduced me so much that I needed to visit Rome.

Rome is a renowned city with its very own history, a strong sense of identity and a friendly and relaxed approach to life! It was the second time that I visited this city but it felt like it was the first time. I was overwhelmed with all of the history the city had to offer. We’ve booked a beautiful design hotel located nearby Piazza Navona. The location of the Palazzo Navona Hotel was perfect and everything worth seeing was on a walking distance of 1,5 kilometers.

First we thought that three days in Rome was too short for a visit, but it was perfect. In two days we almost saw all the sightseeing points of interest and therefore we had plenty of time left for shopping! Rome owns the biggest Zara of Europe and it was located in beautiful building in Via del Corso. This is by the way the biggest shopping street of Rome. Streets around Via del Corso were also pretty nice and filled with beautiful (and also quite expensive) clothing boutiques. So I definitely recommend to explore the small streets around Via del Corso and discover cute little boutiques.

As I usually do with travel posts, I’m going to give you some restaurants, shops, and places that I visited and are worth seeing. Here we go:

Ristorante Life
As you all know I probably search everything on Google and also were the dining hotspots of Rome are. This modern restaurant serves typical Italian dishes and it’s located in a side street of Via del Corso. It’s also a popular restaurant visited by famous people and bloggers, so maybe you can spot some celebrities.

Obicà Mozzarella Bar
You can find this restaurant and mozzarella bar nearby the ancient Pantheon. We spend our evening twice at this bar because we really liked the atmosphere. I think this is the bar where the locals meet and eat! Obicà offers different kinds of mozzarella bites, salads, pizza and pasta. The bar looked really cosy and special, and I found out later it has several locations all around the world!

Suede store
Who doesn’t like sneakers? This sneaker shop located in (vintage) shopping street Via dei Serpenti (nearby the famous Colloseum), offers different models and brands of awesome sneakers. Who knows, you might score your next sneaker there!

After three days in sunny Italy, I ate too much pizza and pasta! But it’s my favorite dish so I have no reason to complain! I really enjoyed our days in Rome. Sightseeing in this astonishing metropolis is a hugely enjoyable experience. After all, it’s not every day that two and a half thousand years of history are laid out before you.

Have you been to ancient Rome? What are your favorite hotspots?
